Custom shirts are one of the most visible parts of a charity golf tournament. Players wear them on the day, they show up in every photo, and many golfers keep wearing them long after the event. Done well, they make the day feel professional and give your sponsors real exposure. Here is how to plan them without last-minute stress.
1. Start two to three months before the event
Custom apparel takes longer than most organizers expect. At Eagelco, custom orders take about 45 days from approved design to delivery. Add time for collecting sizes, finalizing sponsor logos and approving a proof, and two to three months is a comfortable window. Starting early also leaves room to order a sample first.
2. Work out your headcount
Count more than just players. Many tournaments also outfit:
- Volunteers and organizing committee members
- Sponsors and VIP guests
- Prize winners or special recognition
- A few extras for last-minute registrations
Ordering a small buffer of common sizes (usually Medium, Large and X-Large) saves scrambling on the day.
3. Collect sizes at registration
The easiest way to get sizes right is to ask for them on your registration form. Link to the supplier's size guide so golfers can check their measurements instead of guessing. If your registration is already open, a short follow-up email asking for sizes works too.
4. Plan your logo placement
Most tournament shirts use a simple layout:
- Chest: the event or charity logo
- Sleeve: a title sponsor or the host club
- Back: a list of sponsors, if you want to give more partners visibility

Send your logos as high-resolution or vector files (such as AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) for the cleanest result. Ask your supplier whether embroidery or print suits each logo best.
5. Choose a shirt golfers will actually wear
A cotton T-shirt gets worn once. A proper golf polo gets worn every weekend, which keeps your charity and sponsors in view for months. Look for performance features such as moisture-wicking fabric, four-way stretch and UPF sun protection, so the shirt is comfortable for a full round in summer heat.

6. Approve a proof, and a sample if you can
Before production, you should receive a proof showing colours, logo sizes and placement. Check spelling, sponsor names and colours carefully. For larger orders, a physical sample lets you check fit, fabric and print quality before committing.
7. Plan distribution on the day
Sort shirts by size, or bag them by player name, before the event. Set them out at the registration table so golfers can grab them on arrival. Keep the extras nearby for late changes.
